What is the CFG scale?

The CFG scale is the parameter that shows how much AI will follow the text prompt. In other words, if this parameter is low, the AI will be over-creative and may draw elements that do not belong to the prompt. If this parameter is very high, you will get the same image every time you try to draw a new one with the same prompt. AISixteen studio sets boundaries for this parameter from 3 to 15, which are considered the most comfortable range. Let’s see how it works on an example in our internal lab with the same seed number:

CFG Comparison

As you can see from the CFG scale comparison, it directly affects image quality. We’ve created images with different CFG scales and the same prompts/seed. This gallery shows different variations of the image that were created using the following prompts:

< photo of a gorgeous blonde female in the style of Stefan Kostic, realistic, half body shot, sharp focus, 8k high definition, insanely detailed, intricate, elegant, art by Stanley Artgerm Lau, extreme blur cherry blossoms background >

And negative prompts:

< Ugly, Morbid, Extra fingers, Poorly drawn hands, Mutation, Blurry, Extra limbs, Gross proportions, Missing arms, Mutated hands, Long neck, Duplicate, Mutilated, Mutilated >

The CFG scales used in these images are 3-, 5, 7-, 10-, and 15, with the same seed number. As you can see, a lower number causes a blurrier image that follows the prompts less. Typically, CFG 7 produces great results and is often the default CFG scale setting in AISixteen Studio, where you can experiment with these prompts.

Conclusion

The CFG scale is a fundamental parameter for generative AI that allows you to set the level of randomness for the image. A lower number would result in more hallucinations and randomness, while a higher value would generate the same image repeatedly. With AISixteen Studio, it is easy to experiment and discover the best settings for generating images. So what are you waiting for?
